What to expect at Trentham's Bonfire & Fireworks Night

It’s firework and bonfire time again, but what can we expect at Trentham Garden’s events this year? Well, we’re heading “out of this world”, taking our theme from the 50th anniversary of the historic moon landing.

Gates open at 5pm. Inside the gardens you’ll see that this year, we have a large screen set up by Perseus, and we’ll be showing the inspiration behind getting a man to the moon, Apollo 11’s moon mission, the moon landing itself and history of man’s accomplishments in space since the moon landing. You’ll hear from President John F. Kennedy, and Neil A Armstrong’s famous quote “It’s one small step for man… one giant leap for mankind”.

As you head from Perseus up to the Italian Garden, you’ll meet some of our visitors from outer space! In the main, central, wide path you’ll meet Spacemen, Buzz Lightyear, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) Robot and as you approach the bonfire area to your left and right you’ll see an Alien duo and an Alien on stilts (we’ve put them to either side so if you have smaller children who might be frightened, you can avoid the aliens!). They’ll be in place, from 5pm to 7.25pm and will be working towards the following schedule:

To the left of the bonfire you’ll find our children's fairground. Do please remember to bring some cash for the rides and for some of the catering units. Speaking of which… this year we’ve added Jacket Potatoes to the line-up! 

The catering units can be found either side of the Italian Garden, with loos located alongside them. On offer this year are burgers, fish and chips, carvery and grill, hot chocolate stands, Chinese food, toasties, donuts, mulled wine and sweets. You’ll find a bar beside the Italian Garden Tearoom - who'll be serving take-away food and drink from the Tearooms themselves this year. The loos behind the Tearoom – including the disabled persons loo and baby changing facilities are open there, also.

If you fancy taking a trip to outer space, there’s a flight simulator by the tearoom this year, cost is £2 per person per go, cash only please. And the very popular “Glow stand” is there for any little light up treats you may wish to purchase.

The bonfires this year are based on space and time travel! The bonfire is lit at 6.30pm, don’t miss standing by the warm glow of the bonfire, and hear it crackle.

Our comperes for the evening are Liz Ellis and Perry Spiller, they’ll be located on a small stage by Perseus. Listen out for their announcements, and if you have any requests, hand them in at the stage.

The fireworks are set to go off at around 7.30pm… don’t miss the final showing of the moon landing space video and join in the countdown… 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… ZERO! As the spaceman takes to the stage surrounded by moon dust and fireworks shoot into space from the lake! This year, we’ve packed more fireworks than ever into our displays, but have also included some silent fireworks so lift your eyes, to the skies and open your ears to a space-theme musical score including the themes from Star Wars and ET alongside Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”.

After the firework finale, if you’re not in a rush to get home, don’t join the crowds to leave, stick around and enjoy a hot chocolate, a trip in the flight simulator or fairground ride, they’re open until 8.30pm, with the gardens closing at 9pm.

All the catering have promised to stay open after the event, so if you want to avoid the crowds who exit straight after fireworks, please do stay and enjoy some food and drink with us.

Tickets are still available for FRIDAY 1ST NOVEMBER at the GARDEN ENTRANCE of Trentham Gardens only until 7pm.
