Around the Woodland and Lakeside this autumn
The woodland and lakeside at Trentham comes alive during the autumn months and we've sat down with Garden Team Leader, Charlie, to tell us what our gardeners have been up to recently and what to look out for on your next visits.
1. Bulb planting
We have been planting around 70,000 to 75,000 bulbs in the Woodland and around the Lakeside. The pictures above are of Narcissus ‘Red Devon’ (daffodil) that were planted 10-15cm deep and wit 8-12cm spacing. You'll find these located opposite the wicker toadstools
2. Tulip Tree – (Liriodendron tulipifera)
We get asked about these all the time as their leaf size is huge! They are just starting to go yellow as they change their colour and you can find them just before the Hazel planting scheme on the west side of the lake.
3. Hydrangea aspera Villosa Group
Like the Tulip Tree, people ask us what these are all the time and they look amazing right now as they add a good splash of colour in the Autumn. We have also under-planted them with Snowdrops. Located just before the stumpery near the wicker toadstools.
4. Cornus controversa
Also known as the wedding cake tree, these are looking fabulous with their autumnal colours of red and pink. You'll find these near the entrance to the woodland.
The ferns are putting on an amazing display at the moment and plenty of scenic photo opportunities for people in the mornings with the fog and later sunrises.
