Bird Hide & Heronry
The estate boasts one of the biggest heronries in the country, based on an island in the lake. At the last count, there were 42 breeding pairs!
Come along to one of our nature events including the very popular RSPB workshops at the Bird Hide, pick up some scopes and see them for yourself. Or get up closer with a trip on the Miss Elizabeth.
Keen eyed twitchers can also spot tree pipits, stonechats, linnets - and if you’re really lucky maybe even a kingfisher darting along the River Trent. Sparrowhawks have also been spotted recently, hovering above the parkland.
In late April, two male Sedge warblers appeared, and the Kestrels are showing good signs of nesting with the male tending to the female while she is on the nest.
Geese and ducks are plentiful on the river and lake - come and say hello, or as locals to Stoke-on-Trent would say “Ayup duck!”.
Take enjoyment in throwing them a little bread.
