Glamourlands
On the banks of the Western side of The Italian Garden you will find “Glamourlands”. This is a contemporary art installation by Tony Heywood which provides a very strong counter point to the formality and perennial displays within the Italian Gardens. With sound and light installation, it certainly enthralls visitors, who quite literally wear out the grass to get up close!
Tony Heywood provides the following guide:
“This new horticultural installation is literally a physical ‘collage’, splicing together and re-presenting three of my favourite landscapes in the UK: Tintagel in Cornwall (gold), Southport beach and funfair (fountain and pine planting) and the Jurassic coast, Dorset (black anthracite).
It is part of an ongoing project in which I visit selected landscapes in the UK during which I film and practice shamanic meditation at each site.
These highly graphic, almost cartoon-like landscapes are a representation of my experiences. Each highly artifical landform is subsequently colonised by specific plant species native to each area.”
’Glamourlands’ will be exhibited at Trentham until the end of September 2011.
