Get your little monkeys reading

05 September 2017

Readathon at Trentham Gardens

This September, local attraction Trentham Monkey Forest is teaming up with reading charity ‘Beanstalk’ to bring you the Monkey Forest Readathon on 9th September.

Monkey Forest wants to encourage the local community to read and what better way than making the stories monkey related.

Beanstalk, who rely on volunteers to help provide their services, do fantastic work within the local schools. They help to make reading fun and ensure children don’t fall behind when it comes to books and the ability to read.

“The work we do is very crucial, not only do we help students achieve their literacy targets, 96% of schools agree it also helps boost the children’s confidence and attitude to the subject which is fantastic!” commented Gail from Beanstalk.

The event will see a range of activities for budding readers, at all levels. There will be chances to win signed books and Monkey Forest tickets, as well as bookmark making and storytelling.

Monkey Forest Director Matt Lovatt hopes the event will encourage children to pick up a book and read more, “there’s nothing like the feeling of getting into a book that you can’t put it down - we want children to experience that feeling which we feel is sometimes forgotten about due to new technologies. It’s a great way to use their imagination and we’re hoping for some great stories about the monkeys!”

Ahead of the event, Trentham Monkey Forest is also running a #MFReadathon competition across their social media platforms. They want people to share pictures of them reading with their children using the hashtag #MFReadathon to be in with a chance of winning a family ticket and some brilliant books donated by Beanstalk.

The readathon event takes place on 9th September and a full team of Beanstalk workers and volunteers will be there to bring you all things books, bookmarks, and monkey stories. Find out more about the event and competition by visiting the Monkey Forest website.
