Brown and Green, located at Trentham Estate, near Stoke on Trent, has just heard that it has been judged as one of the top 10 delis in the UK - and is now up for the title of Deli Of The Year 2011.

The judges, a panel of experts from the food industry including buyers, retailers and journalists, got very hot under the collar judging over 120 delis (from a total of over 400 nominations) and the regional finalists were finally announced after much debate and final voting.

Brown and Green will now go forward to the final stage of judging - an unannounced mystery shopper visit to score the deli for helpfulness, knowledge, quality of products stocked, customer service and above all ‘deli attitude’. Finally the winner of the national title of Deli of the Year will be announced at the coveted food ‘Oscars’ of the fine food world, the Great Taste Awards, which take place in London on September 5th.

“It’s hard to describe how excited we were to hear the news. The entire team are all so proud of what we do here at Brown and Green, and everyone has been included in putting together our written entry for the competition. It’s been great to get all our customers involved too - we received over 250 votes in store, and also know that many loyal customers and supporters voted online too. We’d like to thank them for their support - we know we are more than a shop to our customers, and that they will be as delighted as we are.  We just have our fingers crossed now for the national title, as that really would mean the world to us all” said Susie Keenan, co-founder and Director of Brown and Green.

Brown and Green is open 7 days a week, for more information on the regular tastings and events visit the website

Created and organised by Olives Et Al, supported by The Guild of Fine Food and Delicious Magazine, Deli of the Year is open to all, from the smallest post office with a tiny deli counter to high street delis and rural farm shops, as the organisers firmly believe that the deli culture in Britain is to be supported and celebrated.  Giles Henschel of Olives Et Al explains, “Last year the comments we received were amazing and we were truly staggered by the level of support for delis - we know that each regional winner has been carefully judged and selected - we know we will find a worthy winner of the title Deli of the Year 2011.”  To find out more about Deli of the Year visit www.delioftheyear.co.uk
